When Eurobahn didn't took over yet the line between Mönchengladbach and Venlo, DB's rush hour train from Köln Messe/Deutz did ride all te way to Venlo. At Venlo a Dutch 6400-loco would shunt the train to the yard for the night. In november 2009, that unusual shunting-combination would disappear while Eurobahn was already performing testruns (see the train at the left).
It was hard to photograph the shunting back then, while other trains always blocked the sight to the tracks. But one night, these other trains were announced with huge delay. Bingo! When I was waiting for the rush hour train to come, I realized that there was no 6400 in Venlo at that time. Now what? Then they decided to shunt with the German 225, which was in Venlo to push trains up the slippery hill (due to autumn leaves). And so could it be, that my one and only photo of this rare shunting-action is a really special one!
