These two GE C36-7 locos were ordered by Missouri Pacific prior to their merger with Union Pacific, but delivered after the merger occurred in 1982. The special Missouri Pacific block lettering was a transition scheme applied for a short period of time to give MP employees and customers a chance to get used to being swallowed up by Uncle Pete. They were all eventually re-lettered for UP. In 2003, many of the units were sold and exported to the country of Estonia. Thanks to RL for the information!
No problem! This unit is ours 1509: http://trainspo.com/photo/32311/?list=class . But are you sure the date is correct? As far as I know, all of our C36 units were built in 1985!
Thanks, RL! You are correct, and I had not remembered that the MP lettering had been done so long after the 1982 merger. This photo must have been made in early 1986.
