These were designed back when GE actually cared about style in their locomotive designs. I remember seeing these monsters as a boy during family road trips into Kansas. I had no idea who made them back then, but the distinctive shape with radiator intake screens behind the cab and at the rear of the carbody stood out to even a ten-to-thirteen-year-old kid riding in the back of the family station wagon. Unfortunately we never stopped to take pictures back when they were in their heyday. In the view above, this engine had already been sitting in the dead-line for over a year, and never pulled freight again.
