storyMEV-1 is the electric locomotive that was used to shunt electric trains in Pääsküla workshops. Before MEV-1 was built the shunting was done by different types of diesel locomotives. In 90-ties a decision was made to get something instead of diesels as the depot was home for electric trains, series ER1 and ER2. It was decided to build a loco in company's own shops, the loco was rebuilt from a motor car of an electric train. Motor car of the train ER2-1032 was chosen as basis. When ready to begin shunting in 1997, the loco was named as MEV-1. The three capital letters mean Shunting Electric Locomotive no. 1. MEV-1 is the only electric locomotive that has been used on board gauge in Estonia. It was certified only for the tracks of Pääsküla shops thus was not allowed to leave elsewhere. Now the depot is home for Stadler trains and MEV-1 is out of service and standing still.
