As part of modernisation of Indian Railways, conventional coaches built at Integral Coach Factory, Chennai is being replaced by LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) coaches with Fiat bogies for better speed and more safety. The honour of first dedicated LHB rake in the Mail/ Express category in Southern Railway belongs to Chennai Central - Mangalore Central - Chennai Central Superfast Express. In future , more trains will have LHB coaches. The production of LHB coaches have been stepped up too.
