30203 + 30232 provide 8000HP on train 234S from Wellington.

Train 234S is one of the longest on North Island Main Trunk, often too long for passing loops, and is a rail fan's delight running north in daylight most the way to Auckland. The back of this train is in the Bunnythorpe dip which has several sharp gradient changes dating back to when the line was first lightly built in 1870's. In the distance is Tararua ranges which extend south almost to Wellington. The EF class were supplied by Brush Traction UK in 1988 for the then newly electrified Hamilton - Palmerston North section. They remain the most powerful locomotives in New Zealand but face an uncertain future (along with the electrification.)
