Having received a tip from a friend (JH) on the evening of July 3rd about the next day's detour of #4 due to bridge work on the BNSF TransCon at Sibley, MO, and Media, IL, I found out that it would also have P42DC #156 leading, the Phase 1 Heritage paint scheme unit commemorating Amtrak's 40th anniversary. Two bonuses for the price of one! At 08:01 #4 began backing out of KCUS, west on the KC Terminal to Santa Fe Jct. Interlocking where it then headed north through the West Bottoms and on toward NKC and the Brookfield Sub, via the joint NS/BNSF trackage to Maxwell Junction near Orrick. At least seven more photogs leapfrogged ahead of the rare-mileage detour as it progressed. Thankfully, the train was restricted to 40 mph or less for much of the distance, making it easier to catch it in several locations without risking a friendly greeting by the Missouri State Patrol. The light and weather were ideal, and light traffic was the icing on the cake. I hope you all enjoy the results!
