Roughly a year passed since the memorable failure of the most of V250 engines, which resulted in cancelling direct (non-Thalys) services between Brussels and Amsterdam. I was affected by this cancellation too, and had to travel in the end of January 2013 with stopovers in Antwerpen and Roosendaal. FYRA services no more exist now. But what happened to these EMUs? Where are they now and what is their probable future?
The situation right now is that NS Hispeed re-entered direct services to Brussels last year, however, not from Amsterdam but Den Haag (The Hague) because of lack of space on the tracks according to Prorail (the owner of the Dutch tracks). This service is completely via conventional tracks with Traxx locomotives and normal coaches, it is planned to let them run from and to Amsterdam within a year. The brand name Fyra is currently dropped forever due to bad publicity, and the high speed V160's between Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Breda(traxx+coaches) are now called 'Intercity Direct'.
The V250 trains are all standing still around Amsterdam, waiting for something, but nobody knows what. Because both NS and NMNS cancelled the contract so the only thing the V250's are doing now is running once in a while to keep them in so called 'condition'. Ansaldo Breda has to bring them back to Italy, and is most likely going to put them for sale again after some/a lot of changes. I'm very curious where this trains will end up in some years. That is going to be interesting, otherwise they will be demolished.
