4260 was originally built by General Motors Canada entering service in 1967 as DA 1531. It was rebuilt in 1979 as DC type (G22AR.) It was the first DC to be painted in KiwiRail livery and the only one receiving the prototype phase 1 which many find preferable to the standard livery adopted. 4260, a favorite for many rail fans and even drivers, was leased for use on push pull trains for Auckland Transport. After reverting to KiwiRail it has been busy resuming the freight role it has faithfully served in. This photo, taken with permission from a car park, was after the repairs required to cab after it ran into a slip.
