Built in 1915, 608 was dedicated in 1925 as a war memorial honoring over 400 railwaymen who did not return from World War I. Owned by New Zealand Railway & Locomotive Society, it is based at Steam Inc depot at Paekakariki. The annual Eketahuna Express has just passed a KiwiRail train at Manakau on the North Island Main Trunk Line.
