The Wellington Tramway Museum is located at Queen Elizabeth Park at McKay's Crossing between Paekakariki and Paraparaumu. Trams have been in operation on a line through the park since 1965. Built in 1923, 151 was one of 140 double saloon tramcars built at the Wellington City Council workshops. Several withdrawn between 1960 and 1963 have been preserved. In the distance is Kapiti Island, an important wildlife sanctuary, which gives it's name to the district.
