Thanks for the welcome It was quite a mission to get the shot; at 10am I arrived at the foot of Donner Pass with a heavy snowfall warning in place, but no snow to be seen. A few hours later I80 was down to a crawl (GPS asked if I wanted to switch to pedestrian mode!) and by the evening the whole pass was closed to all road traffic. The diligent work by the Truckee crews however meant trains kept running with nary a pause.
The following morning the skies were clear and the roads were open and made for some spectacular snow shoeing. It is true what they say about Donner Pass, the winter storms are quite legendary.
