Friends of the 261 operated without diesel westbound from Minneapolis Junction, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, 1 October 2017, over former Milwaukee Road main to Glencoe, Minnesota. Milwaukee Road 261, an Alco 4-8-4, stormed across the Mississippi River to start its westward excursion.
Excursion had 13-cars with Cedar Rapids beaver tail lounge on the rear. Rare run without diesel! Twin Cities & Western Railway did use a diesel at Glencoe, Minnesota, to pull train back into Minneapolis.
