Conductor of NS 9323 throws a switch to allow the unit to head for the locomotive facility at Avondale Yard in North Kansas City, Missouri, while BNSF 1455 waits for a signal to proceed toward Argentine Yard with a loaded auto rack train. Distance from me to locos: 1/4 mile
Rare SD80MAC in KC, 5000 hp, V-20 710 powerplant. Soon to be rebuilt into SD80ACU.
Normally, engineers would dim their headlights for a running meet, but my presence at a crossing
probably required the UP train to keep its lights on bright.

Amtrak 198 and 40-year Anniversary Heritage unit 184, along with an F59PHI going to Chicago Metra, accelerate away from Kansas City Union Station on a frigid 7-degree F. morning of blowing snow.
Saw the KCS Veterans Heritage unit for the first time today.

Results of recent flooding on the Missouri River, several miles to the left. These
are normally farm fields for corn or soybeans. NS RoadRailer train #255 led by NS 1168.

@jmadhavadas Thanks! Water is receding slowly, but this scene is much the same two days later. Flat fields will retain ponds of water for many more days and even weeks. Main highway following tracks here was flooded, requiring a 25-mile detour to get around.
