649 emerges from Rimutaka tunnel with another load of logs for shipment from the capital's port. The tunnel is 5.5 miles (8.8Km) long and when opened in 1955 was longest in the southern hemisphere. Prior to 1955 trains used a nearly 8% incline with Fell center rail. The DF class were built by General Motors in Canada from 1979 and turbo upgraded to GT22MC in 1990's
